-Oh my god!! Look at me!!
I barely recognize myself in the mirror!!
That’s it!! I had enough!!
On Monday, I am starting the diet that I keep postponing for some months now.
Let me now eat as much as I can so that I don’t start my diet having big regrets about not tasting my favorite snacks for a last time..
-Oh my god!! I feel so weak!!
I cannot move my legs anymore.
That’s it! I had enough!!
On the 1st of the next month, I will register to that gym next door.
Now, I will spend all my time on the coach until next month, so that I save my energy for the fitness program I am about to start. And I will also eat all the remaining snacks so that I get rid of all temptations….
– It’s too cold to go outside with my bicycle!!
The winter has just started.
I will wait until the beginning of Spring that the weather will be milder and then I will catch up for all three months of winter that I will not do any outdoors activities.
After all who wants to catch a bad cold that will keep them in bed for some time?? Right?
– It’s already March and I haven’t started with my goals yet!!
I am afraid it is too late now. Relatively soon, I will begin preparing for the next new year’s eve and then I will start immediately on day 1 of the new year with all my goals!!
I know that this is the tenth time during the last ten years that I am saying that but this time everything will be different. I know that..
Those are typical examples in daily life and I am sure that most of us resonate with at least one if not with all four of them.
Next week, next month, next season or the beginning of the next year are always the better alibis of procrastination. And most of the times we use them in that particular order..
We start with next week only to realize that we are not ready and then keep pushing it forward to the next available cushion of comfort until we are run out of all four of them.
As a last resort, we make use of our secret weapon. A fifth cushion.
– I am too busy with my career and i don’t have time for anything else.
When I get my pension I will not have to work anymore, then I will have all the time in the world to start with my goals.
It is never too late to set goals in life. Of course you can set goals as a pensioner. For sure.
But you don’t have to wait until then.
Every single day that passes by, will not come back. Never again.
Every single day in your life that you did not act upon a goal, will not come back.
You cannot pretend working twice as hard the next day simply because each day has a fixed number of hours. You cannot squeeze 48 hours of life into the 24 hours of the next day.
I recognize the fact that some of us have difficulties and luck certain assets to design and execute a plan of a meaningful life, which for some other people comes natural.
But I know that all those assets can be cultivated and grow.
I have intentionally decided to write this post a few days before the end of the year, because I know that I will hit the nerve of a big percentage of people already on the fourth cushion of the next year’s goal setting.
Here are some references that will help you structure your thoughts and setup a plan that stands good chances to be followed and executed beyond the first 2-3 months of the following year.
